What is Lines & Lyrics w/ Ross Lynch?

Lines & Lyrics with Ross Lynch was our annual spring quarter guest lecturer event. Ross Lynch is a popular singer and actor. He previously the lead vocalist for the band R5 and is currently in a band, The Driver Era. He previously acted on notable TV shows and movies that included Austin & Ally, Teen Beach Movie, My Friend Dahmer, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

My Role + The Process

As the lead marketer for this event, I held the responsibility of curating the event's visual identity and overseeing all key marketing tasks. I was given a Pinterest board for inspiration to work with based on my programmer's vision. This event's aesthetic was inspired by heavy rock and a sort of monochromatic and simple color palette since we wanted the attention to be emphasized on the lecturer rather than the aesthetics of the marketing.

• Mood board: I screenshotted design inspiration from Pinterest given to me by my programmers. I also screenshotted other design elements I wanted to incorporating including potential color schemes and graphic art.
• Main poster: Using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, I designed a basic text logo and a lightning bolt asset inspired by rock music influences. I then curated a simple design with our guest lecturer at the center, surrounded by a black stroke to make him stand out. To add dimension, I incorporated rough painted lines and a textured background behind him, placing the event information beside him.
• Social media posts: I wanted the posts to match the theme of the event and main poster. I included the same color scheme, logo, and font for easy event cohesion and detection across all of our social media platforms.

My Takeaways

I was nervous marketing an event for someone that I have admired since I was a child, however the immense amount of support that I had with my marketing made me grateful. This event had sold out within less than 15 minutes of event RSVP's being open and students were highly appreciative of their experiences at this lecture. This event was held during spring quarter and put my time management to the test. However, I was proud to finish the marketing for this event within a month's time.
