Rebranding an organization's theme to instill a more professional and cohesive visual identity

Overview
What is Women in Computing?

Women in Computing (WINC) at UCR is an organization dedicated to empowering and supporting a network of leading women in tech. The club is an inclusive community for people who interested in advocating for women in tech and anyone - regardless of skill - who is interested in the field of computing.

My Role

As marketing chairperson, I was responsible for creating marketing materials as well as social media management on all of our platforms. During this specific year, we decided to rebrand to establish a more unified visual identity while retaining our professional image.

The Process / Timeline

Since our meetings were held throughout the academic school year, our board would plan their events a quarter ahead. After officers decided on what their events would be, I would be given the name and description of the meeting description. From here, I would use Canva to create the meeting and event posts. For posts outside of meetings, I would use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create more complex designs for what we wanted to advertise.

My Takeaways

I am proud and flattered to see how WINC still currently upholds the brand identity and theme that I've helped create. This position holds a special place in my heart as it was my first for a lot of things. This was my first time taking on a board member position during my time at UCR, the first time I touched Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, and the first time I felt capable of something in college.

As someone who had an interest in design while still wanting to explore the vast field of technology industry, this role helped me learn about myself and my career options. I was hesitant applying for this position because I felt daunted at first, however, during my time at WINC, I've learned to be more confident in my work and what I produce. Progress isn't linear, but at least it's progress!
